I went for a drive around the neighborhood Friday afternoon about 3 o'clock, this is what I found:

Rice Lake in Brainerd is 100% ice covered with 1-2 inches.
North Long Lake Merrifield Bay is about 20% ice covered.
North Long 371 Bay is 100% ice covered, no activity on it.
Lake Edward is 100% covered, and making some good ice.
Pelican Lake, south side is about 10% ice, lots of diver ducks.
Lake Hubert is about 5% ice covered.
Gull Lake Hole in the Day Bay is wide open.
Round Lake is 90-95% ice covered.

Last year December 1, we were on Edward, looking to be our first lake this year again. If anyone was out and about and has other reports of lakes, maybe in the Cross/Whitefish area, please post, thank you.

Today I saw that Greens was frozen. Dont know if I would make the walk from Maddens yet. I did walk out on Upper Mission chopping holes with an axe as I went and found four inches by shore. Once I got out about fifty yards I made one swing with the axe and ran for shore. It was hard to tell if the whole lake was frozen. I did not make it down to the lake until almost dark and it was dead calm so I could not tell if I was seeing calm, open water or ice in the middle of the lake.

We hunted yesterday in SW MN and all the sloughs were frozen tight. I was still a little cautious with the dog and shooting at any that flew out over the frozen slough.

Be carful out there. No fish is worth it!
