WHEN THE BAROMETER DROPS
When the barometer drops and the cold fronts are rolling through. The wind howls and the motion of the waves are like the ocean. Where do we go ? Most go for the easy way out, the ramp and to the house. If the storm last for several days, most stay at the house. I have never caught a limit of walleye in my living room, nor would I want to.
Some of the best walleye come during barometer drops. There are several advantages to fishing these conditions. The wind may scatter bait fish along with the Eyes meaning one may have to work for their catch. Covering a lot of water is most likely the answer. This makes for a challenging and rewarding adventure. Anyone can produce a limit of Eyes when the bite is on and there jumping in the boat, but cold fronts bring out or build a skilled and determined fishermen . Boat control becomes an major issue . Presentation, what , where, and why become the big questions of the day.
When the front is heading your way and everyone around you is heading home, ask yourself . How many Eyes are they going to catch ?
